To make things easy
for the citizens and to give the ‘Digital India’ initiative a little
push, the government has launched it’s new mobile based application, mAadhaar.
The mobile app has been developed by the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority
of India).
What is MAadhaar, and How does it Work?
UIDAI has launched
a new mobile based app interface, which will carry all your basic Aadhaar
information (includes all demographic information like name, DoB, gender and
registered address with the official photograph) on an electronic based
platform. Basically, the mAadhaar is the ‘official soft copy’ for your
original Aadhaar. The app will link with your Aadhaar number and you can
simply carry your Aadhaar on your device.
Only on Android (Soon on iOS)
The app has been
made available on Google Play [link below] and will be for android users for
the time being. The app will soon release on iOS as well.
Mobile Number Mandatory
For you to use the
mAadhaar app, your mobile number has to
be registered with your official Aadhaar. The registered mobile
number will link with the mAadhaar app on your device, and the mAadhaar will
generate.
No More Hard Copy Required
After you link your
registered mobile number is to the mAadhaar app, you will get an option to
the download Aadhaar Number profile directly through the device. So, if you
have the mAadhaar with you on your device, you don’t have to carry the hard
copy of your Aadhaar Card anymore.
Biometric Locking-Unlocking Feature to Secure Personal Data
The unique feature
of the app is, that it will allow the users to lock or unlock biometrics
data. When any resident enables the Biometric Locking System on the
app, the biometric will remain locked until the user or the Aadhaar Holder
chooses to either Unlock it (which would be for a certain time period) or
Unlock the Biometric System. Plus, the app comes with the Time Based One
Time Password (TOTP) feature, which can be used instead of the SMS based
OTP.
Retrieve Information Instead of Manual Entry
The users on the
mAadhaar app will have the option to get an updated view of their profile if
there is any update request or on completion of an update. One can even share
the QR code and the password protected eKYC data to retrieve the accurate
demographic information from the app instead of any manual entry.
PAN-Aadhaar Link
The Finance Bill
for 2017-18 has made it mandatory from July 1 for everyone who has a PAN card,
should link their PAN to the Aadhar. The mAadhaar app is currently in the beta
stage and will be adding up a number of the features in the future.
To use the
mAadhaar app, you need to have your Mobile
Number is registered with Aadhaar Card. In case you don’t have your number
